January 30:
February 1: Caroline has had a cold and was sluggish at daycare. I picked her up early and she seemed okay, just had a cough and runny nose. After dinner, she got more and more crabby and by bedtime, she was screaming about her ear hurting. It was a reminder of how long it has been since she had an ear infection, because she had never been able to tell us when her ear hurt. We heard a lot of "Oooo, my ear is owie!" and "MY EAR HURTS. MY EAR HURTS!" We felt so bad. It was hard to get her to sleep, and when she did, she woke up every 15 minutes screaming about her ear. Poor girl.

She participated at ballet!
While Caroline and I were at ballet, Joel and Bennett went back to the Super Bowl Live event to see snowmobiles do jumps and tricks:

February 4:
When Joel and I were in DC, Grandma and Caroline had a long chat about her sleeping in her bed at night. In the past few months, she has been sleeping by herself all night... maybe once every few weeks. Usually she comes to our bed around midnight, and kicks us so that we can't get any sleep. But after our trip to DC, she has been doing A GREAT job of sleeping in bed all night. It helps that Joel will take her to pee before he goes to bed, as the main cause of her waking up is because she needs to go, only she doesn't realize that is the reason why she is waking up and just wants to sleep with us instead. Anyway, earlier in the week when I was laying in bed with her at night, she was saying, "I have been sleeping ALLLLL by myself. My grandma said she is going to buy me a toy!" "Oh, is that right?" I asked. This was news to me. "Yes. She said if I sleep by myself all night, she will buy me a toy, and I have been sleeping by myself ALLLLLLLLL night." This is true, so kudos to her. "Ok, you can talk to her about it this weekend, but what kind of toy do you want?" I asked. "Belle doll. BIG," she said. I knew full well what she was talking about, as Joel and I have commented on how creepy the 3' high princess dolls at Target are. "Never in our house," we have joked to one another, because it would be too creepy to wake up and see a giant girl sized doll. "Which Belle doll? You already have a Barbie Belle doll," I asked, just to confirm. "BIG BELLE DOLL," she said, and spread her arms out wide for emphasis. Great. I thought I had talked her out of it, but on Sunday, Grandma took us to Target, and Caroline knew exactly what she wanted.
Yup, she loves it. I wasn't even sure how she'd play with it, since it is more like a mannequin than something to play with, but she plays ring-around-the-rosie with it, puts it to sleep, gives it hugs... so yeah. Not at all weird.
Other Caroline-isms. She has a habit of not wiping after she pees by herself, which causes her to get raw down there. For the longest time, she would refer to her vagina as her butt. "No," we'd correct her, "that is your vagina. Your butt is in the back." So then she started calling it her buttgina. Somehow that has evolved to puh-gina. "Mommy, my puhgina hurts!" Caroline definitely has the toddler lisp much more than Bennett ever did, but it is too cute to correct her!
