Monday

Monday

After work Bennett was telling Joel about his day. Joel asked him if he told his friends he got to mow the lawn on the new riding lawnmower. Bennett said he didn't because he didn't want his friends to laugh at him. It was such a sad thing to hear him say. I realized I'm the trip that he wanted to fit in with the people around him but I didn't realize what that really meant. That's explain why when we'd ask him if he told his friends at Italy, he said no, that he only told his teacher about it and that he didn't want to talk to his friends about it. Just shy of 3.5 seems so young to be embarrassed about things, and wanting to fit in so badly.

Wednesday
The daycare celebrated mud day. Apparently Caroline barely touched it hit Bennett loved it. He laid in the middle of the mud stream the teachers were making. It's things like this that really make me love our daycare.

I picked up the kids from daycare since Joel was working late. It was a struggle and we are late since I started dinner after I picked them up. The kids held it together pretty well though.

The Weekend

Saturday we started off our day with donuts.

Bennett finished his donut and ate part of Joel's. Caroline ate the top part off of hers and left the rest. We had friends over in the morning then went to Summer Fest in the evening. First up was the car train. Bennett ran to the monstertruck and stuck Caroline next to him, since we're never too sure how she's going to deal with the situation.

Caroline was her typical stone face during the ride but she did wave at me once. Bennett was clearly in heaven.

Then it was time for the bounce houses. Caroline was too scared to go, probably because there were tons of kids, so Bennett went with cousin August.

The radar started to look nasty so we weren't sure how much time we'd have left. Bennett wanted to bounce more, so he stayed to do that while Caroline and I went to the petting zoo.

She was too scared to touch any of them  but wanted to see all of them. She wasn't a fan of the llamas or cow, probably because they were pretty big but she liked the baby goats. Eventually Bennett joined us. He liked combing the animals and touching a few.

Then we got news that the festival was going to shut down for a while, for severe weather to pass, but we were able to fit in a quick visit to the firehouse first. Caroline really wanted to sit in the firetruck. I was surprised since she's usually not into vehicles.

The festival shutting down came at a great time because we went to Snuffys for dinner.
We loaded the kids up with malts and were debating if we should head home since it was just after 6. We actually didn't get any severe weather so I suggested driving by the festival and of course, they opened back up early since the sun was shining. Much to Joel's dismay, I argued that we stay since there was a lot we hadn't done. First up was the pony ride. I was actually super pleased with the pony ride because the ponies weren't attached to a spoke, and made to walk in a circle like usual. This time someone led the pony around a grassy area. Much more like an actual pony ride than walking in a circle! Naturally Bennett was excited to ride a pony. I asked Caroline a few times if she wanted to do it and each time she nodded. Of course when it was her turn to get on, she didn't want to but I made her. Like I physically forced her legs apart and made her straddle the saddle, while she clutched into me for dear life. I actually think she was more scared of the lady holding the reins than she was of riding the pony, and I felt slightly ashamed that I had to force my kid to sit on the pony but the last assured me that she's done the same with her kid. Considering Caroline never cried, only kept a death grip onto me, we kept on with the ride.

Caroline couldn't get off quick enough and the refused to let the horse. As we were walking away I was telling her proud I was of how she rode the pony and eventually she smiled, clapped her hands and said, "Yay!" So obviously not scarred for life! Then the kids took another turn on the car train while Joel scoped out the trampoline jump. This time each got their own vehicle. I thought Caroline was going to hop out but she was just grabbing the steering wheel and shaking it in excitement.

Then we went to the trampoline jump. Bennett really wanted to do this last year but I didn't let him. This year was his year.  He was weighed, which determined while jump station he went to. Naturally the line for the littlest kids was the longest since there was only one line for the littles. His line had probably 6-8 kids in front of him, while others had 2-3.

So much waiting...

While Bennett waited, Caroline ride the car train two more times. The first time, because she needed to do something and there was no line. The second time because she refused to get out, and luckily there was no line.

After waiting 20-25 minutes, it was finally Bennett's turn.

He did great! It was actually hard for him to do since he's supposed to jump in the middle of the trampoline, but he's still so teeny that he couldn't make enough force to jump back down in the center of the trampoline. A few times he's spring to the front or back of the trampoline and the lady would have to reset him but he did a great job. Naturally afterwards, when I asked what he thought, his answer was, "good."  Things are always 'good.' Whenever Bennett gets hurt, I like to tell him he's my daredevil. If he likes to fly high, run fast, he's a daredevil. Daredevils are brave, take chances, and of course sometimes get hurt. So I reminded him of what a daredevil he was, flying high in the air. I worry that he's going to grow up and so all the extreme sports that will give me a heart attack but at the very least, I can be proud that he's always up for trying new things. Whenever it comes to new physical activities, sports, rides, Bennett is always willing to try. He is more bashful when it comes to doing something in front of a crowd though. He definitely likes to fit in and is afraid of doing something wrong and people laughing at him.

After there was more bouncing. Caroline actually gave it a try. There weren't any other kids in the bouncy house at first so she went in when she saw Bennett was in. After a few seconds, more kids joined and she quickly came out. At least she got a few bounces in.

Then we saw some parents taking their kids down a big pirate ship slide that's Bennett had been begging us to let him try. He could do it on his own but was too short. So we decided to take the kids. I went first with Caroline, who actually wanted to go. Climbing up went okay bit our slide down was pretty traumatic. I somehow bounced a bit and got off balance, which caused me to turn and eventually flip and roll, while holding Caroline. At one point I saw us rolling and bouncing towards the edge of the inflatable, towards the grassy earth but luckily we came to a stop before that. It was pretty horrifying and naturally Caroline started screaming, "OWIE," as if she broke every bone in her body. I felt fine so I knew she was just scared and shaken up. No pictures of our terrible slide down but Joel and Bennett were next and I managed a few pics.

Luckily for them they started rolling, but the opposite way from us and hit the ship. We left shortly after. Caroline was tired and getting crabby. Bennett was sad we had to leave.

Sunday I woke up with these two crazies in bed.

Then Bennett and Joel dressed like twins for the day. As Bennett says, daddy is his best friend so he was delighted to be daddy's twin.

After dinner we finally took out Caroline's smash cake from her first birthday. Just like her birthday Caroline only ate fistfuls of frosting.

Here she is making funny faces:

Then it was time for a bath. Caroline had a code brown in the tub. So terrible. Luckily Bennett hadn't gotten in yet. So the tub needed to be drained and refilled. Caroline was getting tired at this point, and extra vocal about how she only wanted to play in the bath... But we somehow got her out and she put on lotion.

Then she kept hiding in her blanket while I was trying to out her to bed. So silly.
