Italy Day 6

Caroline had another rough night. She woke up around 4 am, really upset. She had a fever and was generally uncomfortable. Joel have her some Tylenol and noticed the gland on the left side of her neck was swollen, like a grape. She eventually fell back asleep but  kept waking up. Around 8:30, I decided to be nice and wake up, since she was clearly wide awake and happy. We got dressed and went down for breakfast. They had canned fruit cocktail, and Caroline loovvveessss canned peaches and pears. Great. She ended up eating a ton of it. At least she was eating something because she's had such little appetite these past few days. She also ate some cornflakes. Whatever makes her happy!

When we finished eating, Bennett was awake in bed, so we woke up Joel too. It was already past 9:30, so o was glad to see Bennett got plenty of sleep. Another view from our hotel room:

Today was our planned beach day. According to the forecast it was supposed to be the nicest day of our stay. Joel wanted to take Caroline to talk to the pharmacist, so they did that while Bennett and I went to the beach. Making our way from the hotel. The white doorway on the left is our hotel. These are like 15 stairs of the 400+ to get to the beach.

We set up our towels but Bennett was pretty unsure of the water. He didn't want to go in at all.

Afyer Joel  arrived and Bennett got his dragon floatie, they both went in.

Cafoline actually really loved kicking her feet in the water.

We got to the beach around 11 and by 12:30, Caroline was totally over being at the beach, despite Joel walking her around a lot, buying us an umbrella and drinks.

No beach toys, but we had a cardboard box from some cookies... A poor man's bucket.

Joel took Caroline back to the hotel room and Bennett and I stayed in the beach. I wasn't too sure how long we were going to stay but Bennett was seton staying the entire day. Eventually he needed to pee so I took him into the water and told him to go but he freaked out because he didn't want to go in his pants. Ugh. Then he told me he was done so we got out of the water. I thought that meant he went but no. He didn't. So we paid 0.50 euro to use the public toilet. He was much happier after that. I tried to get him to nap on the beach but he just said he was basking in the sun. 'Basking' is his word, not mine.

He never took a nap, though I thought he was close at times. Then we played the game where I guessed which hand held the rock. It was thrilling.
All in all it was a really relaxing day. There were times he's get an attitude but generally played with himself, pretending the rocks were money for pony rides or whatever it was that he was pretending. Eventually Joel and Caroline came back.

We finished some drink bottles so Bennett finally had some more toys to play with. Caroline still didn't like sitting I we went in the water for a bit. I just sat on some rocks and she sat on my lap. We played with sand. She got brave ventured a few inches away from me, putting her feet in the water. I was actually scared a big wave would take her out but she did okay. Then she got bored so we took a walk.

And got something gelato:

We finally finished with the beach around 5:30. Parts of our afternoon were spent calling the pediatrician in the states, to ask about Caroline's situation. Crabby, slight fever, enlarged gland, ear infection, tons of yellow snot and a cough. They told us we should probably take her in to be seen.

We went to dinner and while we were waiting for food, Joel was on the hunt to figure out the doctor situation in Positano.

Joel found a doctor, who didn't speak much English, who'd make a house call so it was set up and we went back to the hotel. It was a really odd exam. He basically used a magnifying glass and flashlight to look in her ear, not one of the little things that goes in her ear, like doctors usually use. He said her right ear was okay and left ear was a little infected. He didn't really seem to notice her big swollen gland, or maybe it wasn't a big deal to him. We had to point it out a few times and he really poked at it, which we know had been super tender for Caroline. He did say her their was very swollen, and that she has tonsillitis. The ear infection is secondary to that. No bronchitis, no pneumonia. Her chest sounded okay, which was good. She has a fever, her throat looked swollen. He made a gesture with his fingers to show a small hole. So in the end he prescribed an antibiotic and took Joel to the pharmacy in his car.

When they got back we looked at the meds and it wasn't what we were expecting. It was powder and we weren't sure what to do with it.

So Joel took Bennett and they went back to the pharmacy to ask. Meanwhile, Caroline and I sat on the balcony and sang songs. Eventually she fell asleep, naked except for her diaper, with a blanket wrapped around her. I got up to get some water and part of the blanket fell off of her. In her sleep she said a sleepy, "uh oh," but kept sleeping. After Joel and Bennett returned, Joel gave Bennett a shower and then we heard fireworks outside. It was a really nice, but super short, treat... That also woke Caroline up.

We also saw a red lanterns lot and set off in the air.
