Friday
Joel needed to go up north for work, so it was just me and the kiddos. I ran home after work, found the small inflatable pool, and was able to fill it with water before getting the kids. It was so hot out, and I knew the water wouldn't warm up by the time I got them, but at least it'd be a little warmer than water fresh out of the hose. In the car, I surprised the kids with Timbits, then mentioned they'd need to put on water shoes when they got home. Already, Bennett was saying, "I am SO excited."
Once they were settled in at the pool, I went inside to make dinner. When I got out 5 minutes later, neither of the kids were wearing pants:
As I was taking the picture of them, Caroline decided to take off her clothes, and Bennett quickly followed.
Then we needed to go inside for baths. I'm fully committed to the kids getting baths on Fridays now. Caroline was NOT happy to go inside though, and was convinced she could bathe in the pool. "Take bath here!"
Caroline also got a new pair of shoes. We really don't buy her new shoes too often, since she gets a lot of hand-me-downs, but she needed a good pair of summer shoes, and these Crocs were too cute. She calls them her glass slippers.
Saturday
We went out to dinner. Caroline wasn't really wanting to eat, but was really good about staying seating and occupying herself by playing with food (and keeping it on her plate). Then she sighed, put her head in her hand and sat like this for a while:

It was so adorable and seemingly sad. I wasn't aware that two year olds have so much to contemplate in life. Joel and I actually exchanged glances, like, what's wrong with her? Then after a few minutes, she looked at me and started laughing.
Sunday we went to Grand Old Days in St. Paul. It was our first parade of the summer. We scored a spot that was mostly in the shade, so the parade was actually enjoyable despite the heat. Before the parade, Joel let the kids do pony rides:
Caroline actually smiled once, so it was clear she was having a great time, despite the stoic face.
So glad Bennett decided to pose for photos:

The very end of our Grand Old Day experience was watching the band play. Both kids wanted to listen to the band. Bennett even said he wanted to dance, which they did.
