Spain Day 7

Well, we did it. Woke up bright and early to go to Alhambra. The kids did surprisingly well. We stopped in to the hotels breakfast on our way. I explained we were going to Alhambra and asked if we could take some food to go. The lady working was super nice and even grabbed us tinfoil to wrap food in.

After we got our tickets, we waited in line for the gates to open. We were next to a curio shop, and Bennett commented on how beautiful he thought the items in the window were, so he took a picture:

Then of course Caroline wanted to take a picture of something:

Once in the grounds we made our way to the nazaries, where our timed tickets were for. The walk was beautiful.

This face pretty accurately describes Caroline’s mood all day:

Yes, she is elbowing her brother:

It was very sunny:

The following photos at Palacio de Carlos V

This is a pretty accurate photo: Joel always trying to explain something to us, Caroline directing what we SHOULD be doing, Bennett bored.

Going up the staircase Caroline insisted we climb:

An ice cream reward for walking the alcazar... although Caroline probably didn’t deserve it.

After Alhambra, we headed back to the area near the cathedral for lunch. We ended up at the plaza de Bib-Rublino. Lunch was fantastic. One of the best meals we’ve had. Grilled calamari for me, grilled chicken and fries for Caroline, the most amazing cheeseburger for Bennett and oxtail for Joel.

A great view of the cathedral:

Our usual look: someone pushing the stroller, the kids semi-bored

Caroline fell asleep just as we were getting back to the hotel for lunch. She slept for about 45 minutes before we heard some kid having the most massive tantrum. It was definitely a Caroline caliber tantrum, and it woke her up.

A view of the stairs leading to the loft in our hotel room:

Statue of Christopher Columbus asking Queen Isabela for permission to sail east. Joel thought it was Ferdinand in the status:

Joel insisted we walk to the middle of nowhere, going uphill, for dinner. We ended up walking past a super cool, elaborate church with a vignette of The Last Supper using what seemed to be full sized mannequins. Kind of weird but kind of cool. Caroline and I also got to see the beginning of mass. Then we ended up at a quirky restaurant, La Ninfa. Joel had fried calamari. I had grilled fish, maybe it was called Dora. The kids shared lasagna bolognase, which came out as a little boiling vat of lasagna. The food was really great!

Overall the day went well. The kids actually held it together surprisingly well, considering they had to wake up early and didn’t eat their full breakfast before beginning the tour in the morning, where food wasn’t allowed. Caroline wanted to be held a lot, as usual, but Bennett did a good amount of walking. Bennett said his favorite part of the day was the fort. I think his actual favorite part of the day as when we left them watch tv while we rested at the hotel. Tomorrow we leave Granada for Sevilla again. Caroline has been wearing her flamenco shoes during portions of each day, so we’re thinking we need to find her a backup pair when we go back.
