Today's was Joel's first Father's Day, to a human. I don't think Bennett and the girls could ask for a better dad! We slept in this morning and then the girls and Bennett gave Joel his Father's Day gift: the photos above put in a frame and a set of hand and foot prints from Bennett. (Side note: It is SUPER HARD to take hand and foot prints of an infant when you only have two hands. I had to cover his palm with paint, get the piece of paper, uncurl his fingers, press the paint-covered hand onto the piece of paper, all while holding the paper in place, and ALL while holding onto Bennett. The original plan was to make a set of prints of each of the girls also, but needless to say, that didn't happen.)
After gifts we did one of our favorite things: walking to get coffee and bagels. It was a nice, hot, sunny day, so the girls needed somewhere to cool down after the walk. As I posted earlier, they realized the front yard had turned into a dog spa, complete with mud bath, after yesterday's rain and went at it.
Luckily for them their loving father has all the patience in the world, and let them army crawl and roll through the muck for a while, before giving them a much needed bath. The girls, especially Luca, are water dogs, so they found a little heaven on earth today.
Bennett was his happy easygoing self today. As Joel mentioned earlier, that wasn't the case yesterday. Given the situation, he wasn't really that bad. Since we spent all day prepping for the party yesterday, we didn't have time to put him down for naps. He spent the day either running errands with us (where he got a few short 15 minute naps) or hanging out in the sleep rocker. Unfortunately, he didn't sleep at all at home, and since we were busy getting things ready for the party, he didn't get his afternoon 1.5-2 hour nap. This obviously posed a big problem for the party. But again, luckily for Bennett he has a loving patient father, who was able to give house tours and put him to sleep, twice. He managed to squeeze in two 15-20 minute naps during the party, which weren't enough but better than nothing. I don't know how Joel did it because every time I held him, he'd fuss like crazy. Daddy just had the magic touch!
Tonight we went to dinner at my parents' place. We finally managed to take some photos of Bennett with his maternal grandparents:

| Sometimes taking photos gets a bit old, but luckily Grandpa was there to give a little pep talk. |
Then finally we took a fussy/sleepy Bennett outside and snapped a quick father/son photo before running back indoors to avoid becoming mosquito bait. Happy Father's Day!!
