This was Caroline's first flight, and she has a double ear infection so needless to say, we were all more than a little nervous.
Bennett did a pretty great job. Obviously he loved looking out the window, until there wasn't much to look at anymore. Then we slowly gave him new toys to play with. He got a little antsy but the row of seats have him room to stretch his legs.
Eventually we broke out the headphones, which he was excited about. He was pretty content to listen to music for 15 minutes but it was hard to hear since the plane was so loud.
Caroline was another story. I don't think it was her ears that bothered her so much, but the lack of room and unfamiliar environment so she couldn't sleep despite being super tired. Joel had to take her to the galley for a while and even huddled in a bathroom while she was screaming. She didn't scream continuously, luckily for us, but would let out a few yells occasionally to let us know how unhappy she was. Then around 7:30 MN time, she fell asleep and Bennett got to watch some videos. I think Bennett did pretty well, entertaining himself for 2 hours and Caroline couldn't been worse so we were lucky.
Once we got to FL we had a 75 minute ride which Caroline did not enjoy. I think she probably felt a little crummy, was hot and overtired. She cried and screamed for 80% of the ride. Then once we got to Melbourne, it was close to 11:30 and the kids were wired. By the time we got settled in, the kids were even more wired and fell asleep around 1 am.
